On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in the late afternoon, firefighters from Park Ridge responded to a severe car fire that broke out in a carport adjacent to a home located at 2023 Milton Avenue. Upon arrival, they found heavy flames already spreading toward the structure. Strong winds posed a significant risk of the fire spreading to neighboring homes, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm.
Multiple fire departments were dispatched to the scene, including all on-duty units from Park Ridge, as well as additional support from Niles and Des Plaines. The engine companies on site included Schiller Park Engine 5, Wheeling Engine 42, Northfield Squad 29, Des Plaines Squad 63, and Morton Grove Squad 4. Ambulance units involved were North Maine Ambulance 1, Niles Ambulance 2, and Des Plaines Ambulance 62. Chief officers from North Maine, Des Plaines, Morton Grove, Schiller Park, and Niles also arrived to manage the situation.
Local residents reported seeing thick smoke rising from the area and described the intense heat radiating from the burning vehicle. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and prevent it from reaching nearby homes. Despite the challenging conditions, no injuries were reported, and the fire was eventually brought under control.
