Apple filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on October 22, describing a technology that can use the iPhone to control the car.

This technology uses geofence technology to detect the distance between the user and the car through the iPhone and automatically complete the actions such as locking the car, starting the engine, and opening the trunk.

Starting a car with a mobile phone is not a new technology. There are already many applications on the market that can achieve similar functions, but Apple plans to complete these tasks automatically when users enter or exit the geofence.

For example, if the user leaves the car, the iPhone will send a lock signal and activate the alarm system. When the user re-enters the geofence area, the technology can automatically lock the car and turn off the alarm system. In addition, if the user walks behind the car, the iPhone will also send a signal to open the trunk.

This technique is not necessarily limited to detecting whether users are within or outside the geofenced area. Apple also explained in the application document that the system can also issue long-distance signals to heat the car ahead of time when it detects that the user is ready to drive away.
