Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Experience in Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Can Be Used for Reference

From May 13th to 14th, China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association and China Environmental Protection Industry Association jointly held an experience exchange meeting on environmental protection work in the nitrogen fertilizer industry in Xinxiang, Henan. The meeting pointed out that the nitrogen fertilizer industry has gained a lot of experience in clean production, pollution control, energy conservation and other aspects, but the task of energy conservation and emission reduction must not be relaxed.

According to reports, the nitrogen fertilizer industry is a large energy-consuming industry. In 2006, 551 companies in the industry consumed 10.96 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, accounting for 18.7% of the country's total natural gas production; and consumed 42.734 million tons of anthracite (subscript), accounting for the national anthracite coal. 22.1% of the total production; 64.69 billion kwh electricity consumption, accounting for 2.28% of the country's total electricity generation. Among the 1,000 key energy-consuming large households in the country, nitrogen fertilizer companies accounted for more than 160. The nitrogen fertilizer industry is also an industry with a large amount of pollutants. Chemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, and sulfur dioxide emissions are relatively large. Each year, the discharge of water pollutants is 0.909 million tons and the displacement is 2.13 billion cubic meters.

Kong Xianglin, vice chairman of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, introduced that the nitrogen fertilizer industry has achieved great results in environmental protection by promoting technologies such as zero discharge of sewage. All nitrogen fertilizer companies in the country can basically meet the standard discharge of water pollutants. In particular, pollution control of nitrogen fertilizer companies in the key river basins such as Sanhe, Sanhu and the Three Gorges reservoir areas has become remarkable. In the past, nitrogen fertilizer plants close to rivers, rivers, and lakes consumed 400-500 cubic meters of direct-current water per ton of ammonia. At present, most factories can meet the requirements for ammonia-emissions of 10 to 50 cubic meters of water for advanced ammonia production. The company's displacement has dropped to 3 to 5 cubic meters. Exhaust gas and waste slag are basically recycled. Many companies have developed hydrogen peroxide, dimethyl carbonate, dimethylformamide, hydrazine, and some hydrogenated products based on the recovery of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide from exhaust gas.
Wang Xinfang, president of the China Environmental Protection Industry Association, said at the meeting that the China Environmental Protection Industry Association will support nitrogen fertilizer companies to promote zero-emissions technologies for nitrogen fertilizer production, promote the application of membrane technology in nitrogen fertilizer production, conduct pilot tests for ammonia removal from boiler flue gas, and promote boilers. Flue gas bag dust removal, and welcomes nitrogen fertilizer companies to participate in the environmental protection industry.

It is reported that the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association proposes energy-saving technologies for energy saving of eight sub-components in three areas. The transformation of a plant producing 180,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 300,000 tons of urea with these energy-saving technologies will require an investment of 63 million to 90 million yuan. Saving 72 million to 108 million kwh, saving 5.2 million tons of standard coal raw coal.
