This is from Larry Shapiro:
Residents called the Wheeling Fire Department on Wednesday evening to report an explosion in the kitchen at 293 Lincoln Road. When the first police officer arrived, he noticed smoke coming from the house and reported that one person required medical attention. Firefighters quickly responded and confirmed a fire inside the split-level home.
Ambulance crews transported the injured individual to a local hospital, and the incident was upgraded to a working fire. Firefighters used two interior lines to rapidly bring the flames under control.
Fire units from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Northbrook joined the effort, along with two engine companies, two ambulances, a ladder truck, and two chief officers from Wheeling.
Here are some photos and a short video capturing the scene.
