Box Alarm fire in Park Ridge, 5-25-21

On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in the late afternoon, firefighters from Park Ridge responded to a serious car fire that had broken out in a carport adjacent to a home located at 2023 Milton Avenue. Upon arrival, they encountered heavy flames that were already spreading toward the structure. Due to strong wind conditions, there was a significant risk of the fire reaching neighboring homes, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm. Multiple fire departments from surrounding areas joined the response, including all on-duty units from Park Ridge, as well as additional resources from Niles and Des Plaines. At the scene, fire engines such as Schiller Park Engine 5 and Wheeling Engine 42 were deployed, along with Northfield Squad 29, Des Plaines Squad 63, and Morton Grove Squad 4. Ambulances from North Maine, Niles, and Des Plaines were also present, including North Maine Ambulance 1, Niles Ambulance 2, and Des Plaines Ambulance 62. Chief officers from several districts, including North Maine Battalion 1, Des Plaines Battalion 61, Morton Grove Battalion 4, Schiller Park Battalion 5, and Niles Battalion 2, coordinated the operation. Local residents and media covered the event, with Steve Redick providing a video account of the situation. A photo by Larry Shapiro captured the intense flames engulfing the vehicle and the surrounding area. Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters worked swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. No injuries have been reported at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
