The North Maine Fire Protection District, along with firefighters from Des Plaines and Niles, responded to a house fire on Friday morning, December 2nd, 2022, at a remote location in unincorporated Des Plaines. The incident occurred at a large home located at 9609 Reding Circle, which sits on a small lake off Golf Road and near I-294. Reding Circle is a narrow, private road with limited access, making the scene difficult to reach.
Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a working fire. Soon after, flames were seen breaking through the roof of the vacant home. Firefighters made an initial interior attack but were quickly forced to transition to a defensive operation, using aerial resources to manage the situation. Three ladder trucks were deployed, including Des Plaines Tower 61, Niles Tower 2, and Glenview Truck 14. North Maine Engine 1, Niles Engine 3, and Prospect Heights Squad 9 provided water supply, while Truck 2 operated off its own hydrant.
The alarm was later upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm, though most of the mutual aid units were not activated due to the situation being contained. Despite the challenges posed by the remote location and limited access, crews worked efficiently to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
Photos from the scene captured by Tim Olk show the intensity of the fire and the efforts of the responding units. The incident highlights the importance of quick response and coordination among departments in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control within a few hours.
