Xie Yuhong, director of the South China Sea Western Bureau of Petroleum Administration, said: "At sea, HPHT drilling is a world-class challenge. It faces a depth of 1,000 meters and a depth of 4,000 meters. Due to multiple factors, drilling costs are extremely high and the risks are greater. The required technical difficulty is even higher. "However, the resources of China's South China Sea under deep-sea high-temperature and high-pressure conditions account for about half of the resources in South China Sea. After analyzing the geological data, if there is resources to be exploitable, more exploration wells will be deployed in the next step.

Internationally, the current vertical distance from the water surface to the seabed of 500 meters or more is called deep water, and the depth of 1,500 meters is ultra-deep water. In recent years, 50% of the major exploration discoveries that have been made globally come from the oceans, mainly deep water. China's South China Sea is rich in oil and gas resources, of which 70% is in the deep sea.

In view of the drilling risk caused by high temperature and high pressure, CNOOC Ltd. has developed a multi-mechanism formation pressure prediction technology to analyze wellhead stability, check formation pressure and working window, and solved a series of technical problems such as deep-water high temperature and high pressure drilling fluid and cementing.
