Cooper Standard Sets up Asia Pacific Technology Center in Shanghai

According to reports, the auto parts supplier Cooper Standards recently announced that its Asia Pacific Technical Center established in Shanghai was officially launched.

The new technology center covers an area of ​​762 square meters and has 55 researchers. It will provide technical support for the company's four major parts business units. In addition, Cooper Standards also relocated its Asia Pacific headquarters in Kunshan to the newly established Shanghai Technology Center.

“At present, the automotive market in the Asia-Pacific region is growing strongly and it is expected that this growth will continue into 2020,” said Cooper Standards' CEO Jeffrey Edwards at the press conference; “The newly established Shanghai Technology Center aims to improve the company’s autos. The R&D, innovation and manufacturing capabilities of parts and components enhance the company’s core competitiveness and provide better products for customers in the Asia Pacific region and other business areas.”

Cooper Standards, an auto parts company in Detroit, USA, revived after its bankruptcy in 2010 and expanded its business into the Asia Pacific region. In 2011, Cooper Standard acquired a Japanese technology company named USi Inc., and in 2013 it acquired several factories of Jyco Sealing Technology in China.

According to statistics compiled by the "American Automotive News", Cooper Standard ranked 69th among global auto parts manufacturers in 2013, and its products mainly include sealing systems, fluid transmission systems, braking systems, and shock absorption systems.

Since its formal entry into the Chinese market in 2003, the Cooper Standard has continuously expanded its business in China. In 2007, Cooper Standard Asia Pacific headquarters was established in China. Currently, it has a number of production bases in Shanghai, Kunshan, Wuhu and Chongqing, with more than 1,400 employees in China. The company also actively cooperates with universities in China to jointly promote technology research and development and the cultivation of local talents.
