Mount Prospect Fire Department news

Excerpts from DailyHerald.com:

Mount Prospect Fire Chief Brian Lambel is requesting approval from the village’s fire and police commissioners to terminate an employee, citing concerns over threatening remarks made by the individual.

The official complaint filed by the chief involves Firefighter/Paramedic Lloyd Miller, a 12-year veteran who has been on paid administrative leave since January. According to the document, Miller reportedly said he would “kill some people” if he wasn’t placed on the promotion list. The report also notes that his coworkers are fearful of him, and they have seen Facebook images of him firing a gun at a photo of Osama bin Laden.

Lambel stated that the matter will be reviewed during a hearing on Thursday evening and declined to offer further comments beyond what is included in the formal complaint.

Miller’s attorney, Dan Herbert, called the allegations “absurd,” claiming they were retaliation for Miller’s public comments about the village when he ran for a position on the firefighters’ union board.

Miller had previously sought membership on the union executive board during meetings in November and December.

The complaint details that on January 13, Miller expressed frustration to Firefighter/Paramedic Joseph Reschke about being transferred to a different station and the changes made by the union president to the lieutenant’s testing process. He allegedly said he would “kill some people” if he didn’t make the next lieutenant’s list. Reschke reported the incident, leading to Miller’s placement on paid administrative leave while a formal investigation is conducted.

Lambel also required Miller to undergo a fitness-for-duty evaluation on January 24. During the session, Miller, who owns a handgun and a shotgun, claimed he never fired either weapon, denied being a firearms enthusiast, and stated he was unaware of the brand, caliber, or type of ammunition he purchased.

However, colleagues provided the fire chief with six photos from Miller’s Facebook account showing him holding a gun and shooting at a target that resembled Osama bin Laden. One image showed Miller standing in front of a large poster of bin Laden with around 20 bullet holes.

The complaint states that Miller denied making the threats and also claimed not to recognize himself in the photos.

Thanks, Dan
