A pilot was killed when a small plane crashed into a home in a southwest Chicago suburb early Thursday morning, according to local authorities. The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. in the 1800 block of Hampton Court near Chestnut Hill Road and Bedford Drive in Plainfield.
The Joliet Police Department confirmed the incident, noting that no one was inside the house at the time of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration reported no ground injuries, though it remains unclear how many people were aboard the aircraft. Joliet’s city manager stated that the pilot was among those who lost their lives.
Footage from the scene showed significant damage to one side of the home, with debris scattered across the street. Officials believe the fire was ignited by fuel from the plane, but the investigation is still ongoing. Emergency crews are continuing to assess the situation and ensure the area is safe.
