SITE BITE: Converting the Microchannel in a Trane® TCD600B unit.

**SITE BITE: Converting the Microchannel in a Trane® TCD600B Unit** At Nationwide Coils, we're always excited to take on new challenges, especially when it comes to microchannel conversions. Recently, we had the opportunity to work on another successful project in South Texas for a major telecommunications company. This time, the unit in question was a Trane TCD600B model, originally equipped with eight all-aluminum microchannel coils. During the conversion process, we designed and built two larger copper tube, aluminum fin coils. This decision was made to simplify installation and improve durability. The upgrade from all-aluminum to copper tubes not only enhanced the system's efficiency but also made it more resistant to corrosion and leaks—common issues with OEM microchannel coils. The installation went smoothly, and the customer was able to reposition the new coils with minimal adjustments. Each coil is over 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide, weighing around 175 pounds—so it’s no small task! But the effort was well worth it. After seeing the results, the customer reached out again to convert their additional Trane RTUs on a quarterly basis. They’ve also requested a minor modification to the end plate flange, increasing its length by ½ inch to make it easier to secure the casing using self-tapping screws. The customer even sent us some great photos of the installed coils, along with detailed notes about the changes they want in future units. It’s always rewarding to see our work appreciated and to be part of such a positive experience. What makes working with Nationwide Coils unique is our expertise in MCHX conversions and our ability to customize commercial HVAC coils—even as OEM replacements. While many manufacturers may not offer this level of flexibility or innovation, we pride ourselves on delivering tailored solutions that meet our clients' specific needs. If you're dealing with leaking microchannel coils or looking to improve the performance of your HVAC system, consider a microchannel conversion. Switching to copper tube, aluminum fin coils can provide better reliability, easier maintenance, and maintain the same efficiency as the original equipment. Ready to learn more? Contact us anytime. All we need is the make and model of your unit to get started. Let’s make your system more efficient, durable, and cost-effective—just like we did for our South Texas client.
