Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, November 17th, A Russian passenger plane of Tatarstan Airlines crashed in Kazan, the central and western city of Russia, on the evening of the 17th local time. All 50 people on board were killed.
According to news provided by the General Administration of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, the passenger plane crashed at the time of landing at Kazan Airport at 19:25 Moscow time (23.25 p.m.), and all 44 passengers and 6 crew members were killed. Rescue workers have found all the bodies.
Irina Rossio, a spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, said that the plane took off from Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport. The plane tried to land several times over Kazan Airport, but none succeeded. The fuel tank exploded after colliding with the ground during the last trial descent. After the accident, Kazan Airport was temporarily shut down.
Vladimir Malkin, spokesperson for Russia’s commission of inquiry, said that operational errors, technical problems and poor weather conditions may have contributed to the crash.
According to information provided by Moscow Domodedovo Airport, the crashed aircraft belonging to the Russian Tatarstan Airlines, flight number U9-363, was originally scheduled to land in Kazan at 19:40 Moscow time.
Russian President Spokesman Peskov told the media that Russian President Putin has instructed the government to urgently establish a Kazan accident investigation committee. Putin expresses deep condolences to the victims of the accident.
The Chinese Embassy in the Federation has initially verified the names of the victims and found no Chinese citizens to take the aircraft.
