Ali, Tencent, Jingdong successively launched QR code ride service, will gradually phase out the bus card

China Economic Net October 26 news, at the first China Smart Transportation Conference (hereinafter referred to as the conference) held recently, Tencent upgraded the "ride code" service based on the WeChat applet development, and revealed that as of September 28, "ride The code has been launched in 100 cities.

Ma Huateng personally promoted the “ride code” on the platform, highlighting Tencent’s emphasis on this product. Zheng Haojian, vice president of Tencent, told reporters that in 2020, the number of users using the public transportation system every day will reach 400 million, and the proportion of the average national public transportation will increase in the future.

The huge traffic entrance hidden by public transportation has become a must for the giants - not only Tencent, the Internet giants have been on the line for the QR code since 2017, including Alipay's Alipay and JD's Jingdong Finance. .

QR code is not necessarily the final technology path

According to the data disclosed by the Ministry of Transport's official website at the end of December 2017, the annual passenger traffic of public transportation in China exceeded 90 billion. This large and high-frequency user group is in the node of service upgrading, and bus companies are faced with the problem of how to deal with diversified needs. One card, NFC, two-dimensional code rides and other means.

"The reason why we are on the WeChat and Alipay QR code ride service, the main consideration is: First, the people's use of the QR code is quite popular, the application is very broad; Second, the two applications are huge The ecological circle." Shen Linchong, deputy general manager of Hangzhou Metro Group Co., Ltd. told reporters.

Shen Linchong introduced that the Hangzhou Metro has been scanning the code since the end of 2017. By April 2018, all stations and gates have been upgraded. “From April to now, more than half a year, we accounted for 41% of the rides in physical cards. Among them, 41% included (municipal cards) UnionPay cards, and the code scans accounted for 42%.”

The QR code ride was quickly promoted in many cities in China. The deputy general manager of Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. introduced at the conference that 30% of passengers would rather give up the 5% car card discount and choose to scan the QR code to pass the bus. Beijing Chaoyang District Government website "Chaoyang Life" introduced, starting from May 19th, Beijing Rail Transit Network (excluding the Xijiao Line) brushed the QR code to end the trial run, and entered the official operation as planned. In the "trial period" of the past 20 days, the number of ingested QR codes exceeded 5.32 million.

The two-dimensional code ride has a relatively obvious advantage in the field of public transportation compared with the traditional ride card, but the NFC technology has also been promoted by mobile phone manufacturers. According to Zheng Haojian, Tencent initially tried NFC, biometrics and other technical paths. The choice of QR code as an entry point is because almost any smartphone can be used.

“Frankly speaking, the (QR code ride) process is not the shortest, but it must be the most popular. We hope to gradually use other new technologies on this basis.” Zheng Haojian said that technology is developing rapidly. Therefore, the QR code is not necessarily the final technical path. "There is only one problem with all technical solutions, which is to identify you." In the future, better ID recognition technology may also be applied.

The application is still in the early stage of the giants

Ma Huateng, Chairman and CEO of Tencent, has repeatedly promoted the bus code. In May 2017, Ma Huateng personally demonstrated how to “print the code into the gate” to take the Shenzhen subway, making the outside world pay more attention to this new product.

"Our five major content industries (games, music, literature, animation, video) can also be well integrated with transportation. Users spend a lot of time on the roads of public transportation, subway and other means of transportation." Zheng Haojian believes that According to Tencent’s previous experience, after the realization of online communication in public transportation, it is possible to establish its own big data and cloud computing system. On this basis, more business value can be tapped in the process of serving users, not just The original business model.

Faced with traffic portals and business development prospects, domestic Internet giants are rushing to try and try to get stuck. Jingdong recently launched “a penny ride” to promote the use of payment codes to scan the code and has been promoted in Shandong and Hunan. Alipay's similar products are operated by Xiaoma Liancheng Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xiaoma Liancheng). "In 2018, the small code city will serve 8 to 10 cities across the country, as well as 10 to 15 provincial capital city bus systems, and stationed in hundreds of cities around the world, accounting for more than half of the entire public travel market. For national operations, 2018 The annual transaction scale of tens of millions of transactions is only the most basic passing line within the company.” Li Zhihong, vice president of Xiaoma Liancheng, said in an interview with People’s Daily “Minsheng Weekly” in early 2018.

The commercial space for QR code rides is evident from corporate valuations. In July this year, the high-speed rail company listed in the rail transit industry disclosed that it intends to acquire the target company with QR code ride business for 1.8 billion, with a value-added rate of 2343.24%. The target company's 2017 net profit loss was 4,290,000 yuan, the first half of 2018. The net profit was 61.5704 million yuan, but the transaction was eventually terminated.

The QR code is still in the early stages of application, but the size of the users that can be foreseen has made it difficult for companies to enter the game. A person in charge of purchasing in a prefecture-level city in Jilin Province revealed to reporters that during the bidding process for upgrading the card system platform, Internet companies including Tencent and Ali had thrown “Olive Branches” to them.
