BorgWarner Opens Ningbo Engineering Center and Timing Chain New Plant

On November 28, 2012, the opening of the BorgWarner Ningbo Engineering Center and the new Moss plant marked the acceleration of the rapid deployment of multinational auto parts companies in China, increased localized operations, and fully supported the Chinese auto market.

In the applause of the representatives of Volkswagen, GM, Ford, Hyundai, SAIC, FAW , Great Wall , Beijing Automotive , Weichai, Chery, Geely, GAC, CNHTC , Peugeot, Chang'an, BYD, JAC , and Jiangling , the president of the BorgWarner Board of Directors Mr. Tim Manganello, Chief Executive Officer, said with full confidence: “The Ningbo Engineering Center will be built as a world-class engineering center for BorgWarner and will be an important part of BorgWarner’s global technology. The strategy of BorgWarner is to be close to customers, Localized production of high-tech products. The establishment of a new plant for the Moss system is an important measure for our implementation of this strategy in China."

The 10,000-square-meter BorgWarner Ningbo Engineering Center will be equipped with state-of-the-art testing equipment for many BorgWarner engine products such as turbochargers, engine timing chains, EGR exhaust emissions, and Belu ignition coils. The establishment of the Ningbo Engineering Center will further enhance BorgWarner's indigenous R&D efforts, accelerate the localization of BorgWarner's engine products, and lay a solid foundation for better and faster service to Chinese customers. By 2017, it is expected that there will be 470 employees working for the Ningbo Engineering Center. Chinese engineers with overseas training experience will work with foreign colleagues to use the advanced equipment of the engineering center to speed up the application, testing and validation testing of BorgWarner engine products in China. It provides powerful guarantee for Chinese auto companies to adopt the world's latest engine technology.

The new 16,500-square-meter Moss plant will introduce the world-class production line of engine timing chains and variable phasers to China. Advanced precision high-speed presses, barrel polishing machines, VCT assembly lines, and test benches, etc., enable deep localization of steel belt stamping, heat treatment, polishing, and cleaning processes. Break through simple assembly and achieve a truly first-class production of engine timing chains and phasers. With high-quality engine mute chains, roller chains, bushing chains, and phaser products to meet China's rapidly growing demand for high-quality engines.

Mr. Tan Yuesheng, President of BorgWarner China, reviewed the development of BorgWarner in China and Ningbo: “BorgWarner entered China in 1993 and set up its first joint venture in Beijing. In 2005, Borg After 7 years of development, Warner Warner Ningbo has built more than 66,000 square meters of facilities in Ningbo, providing high quality turbocharger, timing chain and EGR products for Chinese automotive customers. Mr. Tim Manganello, chairman and chief executive officer of BorgWarner, announced that he will invest an additional 60 million US dollars in the sole proprietorship in Ningbo in the next two years to introduce advanced production equipment, expand production capacity, and produce more high-tech automotive power products.
