This report comes from Dennis McGuire, Jr.
Engine Company 115 arrived at 12021 S. Eggleston to respond to a basement fire in a two-story brick apartment building. Battalion 22 activated the Still & Box alarm because the fire had quickly spread to the second floor. It appeared that the hydrants in the area might have been frozen, causing a delay in establishing a water source. Truck Company 27 positioned themselves in the 1/4 sector with their main line extended to the roof. Firefighters managed the blaze using approximately four to five handlines.Interestingly, while the crews were inside the building, a neighbor decided he couldn’t wait any longer and tried to leave. He drove his car over a couple of hose lines but was quickly surrounded by six or seven firefighters and a police officer. As expected, he didn’t move much after that.Dennis McGuire, Jr.
