Electric Vehicles: Huge potential and hard start

With the continuous rise in oil prices and the continuous development of automotive technologies, electric vehicles are increasingly placed on high hopes. It not only can effectively highlight the use of cost advantages, but also reduce energy consumption, reduce emissions, and benefit the environment. Therefore, many research institutions are very optimistic about the future market of electric vehicles, and predict that the market will advance by more than 70% in the next few years.

For the Chinese market, Kearney’s global partner and general manager of the Asia-Pacific automotive industry, Sun Jian, said that the lack of the core technology of gasoline engines will prompt Chinese manufacturers to develop electric vehicles. He also predicted that China's electric vehicle market will enter a period of rapid growth in 2015, and the number of vehicles will reach 5 million by 2020.

However, even if the prospects are expected to expire, the current domestic application of electric vehicles is still based on public utilities such as public transportation, postal services, and sanitation, and private purchases are very limited. At the same time, the commercialization of electric vehicles introduced by manufacturers is not high. Moreover, although well-known car companies including Nissan, Toyota, and General Motors have already begun to promote electric vehicles in China, supporting facilities are actively advancing. Actually, the overall electric vehicle market is still developing at a slower pace than previously expected. It is not a smooth start at home.

In this regard, Sun Jian from the user's point of view, analysis of the three major factors for the start of the electric vehicle fatigue:

First, the price of products sold is too high. Although local governments have introduced subsidies for car purchases, their purchase costs are still much higher than traditional cars. Second, electric vehicle technologies have not achieved the expected breakthrough, and the corresponding supporting facilities are not yet complete. Consumers are inconvenient to use and hinder the popularization of electric vehicle products. Third, there are few types of electric vehicles that are open to individuals. In order to further stimulate purchases, the government's support needs to be further increased.
