Foreign media: China's shipbuilding technology is beyond imagination

Comprehensive Russian "military equality" magazine, Canada "Han and defense review" and other media reports, China's first aircraft carrier - "Liaoning", the main battleship of the Chinese navy will once again become the focus of attention. According to foreign media analysis, China’s opening of the “Liaoning” base has broken the previous rumors that “Liaoning” may have problems after serving, and also demonstrated the confidence of the Chinese Navy in continuing to promote the aircraft carrier project.
“Chinese engineers have cutting-edge technology”
Canada's "Hanhe Defense Review" pointed out that before the "Liaoning" service, some foreign experts have always believed that it is difficult for China to successfully repair this Soviet-era aircraft carrier. They believe that even if the "Liaoning" is added to the Chinese Navy, it will surely "continue problems." The aircraft carrier was built in the 1980s and features a higher standard modular design. Even if Chinese engineers understand their internal facilities through drawings, if the construction materials are not properly used, the repaired aircraft carriers may have unstable center of gravity in the case of fully loaded equipment and personnel, and some of the hulls may even be distorted.
Russia's "military equality" said that many US and Russian military experts believed that it was impossible for any country to build an aircraft carrier independently without the technical support of the United States or Russia, even if it was impossible to repair an abandoned aircraft carrier. Because of that large-scale operation requires extremely complex technology and a large experimental argumentation system.
The report pointed out that China's opening up of the "Liaoning" stationed base proved that the aircraft carrier did not have any problems after its service, which also shows that China's ability to build large-scale warships exceeds expectations. According to reports, the PLA's engineers already have cutting-edge aircraft carrier R&D and construction techniques, including computer simulation experiments and auxiliary design techniques. As a result, they not only succeeded in restoring the internal structure of the “Varyag”, but also using different materials to simulate and repair the aircraft carrier, and selecting the appropriate materials to ensure the balance of the ship's weight. After the successful simulation modification, the People's Liberation Army began to modify the "Varyag", and finally successfully launched the "Liaoning".
The report pointed out that China's modification of the "Liaoning" is much more successful than Russia's modification of the "Gorshkov" for India. The latter only made very limited changes to the internal structure of the aircraft carrier, and it also used special steel for aircraft carriers from Russia.
Has China obtained the "Southern Drawings"?
"Hanhe" said that there is a view that China may obtain the "Varyag" drawing from Ukraine, and Ukrainian experts may have greatly helped China. This is the key to China's successful repair of the aircraft carrier. Therefore, the successful service of the "Liaoning" does not mean that China has the ability to build its own aircraft carrier. But the report pointed out that the designers of the Chinese Navy have always stressed that China did not get its design when it received the "Varyag".
Russia’s Periscope-2 magazine said that the Ukrainian National Arms Import and Export Corporation has recently explained this issue. The source pointed out that in the Soviet era, all weapons systems produced in Ukraine, especially naval equipment, were accompanied by two drawings. One of them is called "Northern Drawings", which is a detailed design of the aircraft carrier, stored in Moscow; the other is called "Southern Drawings", which is the drawing referenced when constructing the aircraft carrier, designed by the Ukrainian Shipyard custody. The “Northern Drawings” are more standard and precise than the “Southern Drawings”.
The report believes that even if China obtains the drawings of the "Varyag" from Ukraine, it must be the "Southern drawings", that is, the construction drawings, and the detailed design drawings that Russia has mastered, that is, the "Northern drawings", cannot be handed over. To China. In other words, China's restoration and modification of the "Varyag" project is mainly carried out independently, which fully reflects China's ability to design and build large-scale warships. The report also believes that the "Liaoning" has confirmed the berthing base, indicating that the ship has played its due role in the Chinese naval sequence, which also enhances the confidence of the Chinese Navy to continue to promote the aircraft carrier project. The experience accumulated by Chinese engineers through the modification of the “Liaoning” has greatly benefited the Chinese domestic aircraft carrier project.
"China has done what others can't do"
"Hanhe" pointed out that there is another factor that cannot be ignored by the outside world: China can successfully repair the "Varyag" and make it "magnificent" into the "Liaoning", using the "no cost" approach. It is very difficult for the navy of any country in the world to do it, "but China has done it."
According to the report, although China only paid 20 million U.S. dollars when it purchased the Varyag, the ship’s parking fees and insurance costs in Turkey and other places totaled more than 100 million U.S. dollars.
What is more noteworthy is that before the delivery of the "Varyag" to the Chinese side, Ukraine dismantled all the wires and piping systems and blasted the main structure inside the hull, "so that it could not be used for military purposes." . This was mainly because the United States, Japan and other countries exerted great diplomatic pressure on Kiev at the time. "We cannot give China a chance to develop a strong strategic navy." Under this circumstance, China can only redesign the interior of the hull, which consumes a lot of manpower, material resources and financial resources. This “cost-free” development method seems to be only adopted by China.
According to the report, if China continues to develop its domestic aircraft carrier in a “cost-free” way, it may also achieve “a result that is difficult for the outside world to anticipate”.
