After the “5.12” earthquake, Hou Yimin, 79 years old, and his wife Deng Wei (80 years old, a famous oil painter) jointly discussed the creation of a work for the earthquake-stricken area. Under their initiative, the teachers and students of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the painters of the Chinese Mural Painting Society responded with one after another. 38 artists successively participated in the creation of this giant painting. The painting of murals lasted nearly one year, during which time Hou Yimin was seriously ill. In the 90 days of hospitalization, he continued to review the work and modify the painting in the ward.

The "Seismic Zhuang Song" artwork was sent to the 11th National Art Exhibition in 2009 and won the silver prize for fresco. The poet Liu Zheng specially composed 17 poems for the painting. This painting was led by well-known decoration artist Li Chunsheng, and with the support of Shandong Zibo entrepreneur Fan Jingming and Gui Yan Ceramics Company Mr. Zhu Yigui, he used the “high temperature sketch” process to burn the paintings into pottery murals.
