Excerpts and video from wgntv.com:

WGN News’ Skycam 9 captured a dramatic moment during a major fire in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood on Friday morning. The footage shows a firefighter leaping to safety as flames engulfed the area.

The fire, which was classified as an extra-alarm incident, broke out around 7 a.m. at a building located on the 2700 block of South Lowe. The blaze quickly spread, with power lines in the vicinity also catching fire, making it more challenging for firefighters to contain the flames.

When Skycam 9 arrived at the scene, emergency responders were seen sliding down ladders from the roof as thick smoke filled the air. One firefighter, who had become trapped on the rooftop, was shown jumping to a neighboring building to escape the danger.

Thankfully, all firefighters were accounted for, and at least six were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. No fatalities have been reported so far.

As the investigation continues, officials are working to determine the exact cause of the fire. Residents in the area have been advised to remain cautious and stay informed through local news outlets. This incident highlights the dangers that firefighters face daily and the quick thinking required in high-stress situations.
