2-11 Alarm and EMS Plan 1 for a mayday alert in Chicago, 2-19-21 (more)

Excerpts and video from wgntv.com:

WGN News’ Skycam 9 captured a dramatic moment during a major fire in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood on Friday morning. The footage shows a firefighter leaping to safety as flames engulfed the area.

The incident began around 7 a.m. at a building located on the 2700 block of South Lowe. It was classified as an extra-alarm fire, meaning it required additional resources due to its severity. Power lines in the vicinity were also sparking and contributing to the spread of the fire, making it more challenging for firefighters to contain.

As Skycam 9 arrived at the scene, emergency responders were seen descending ladders from the roof as thick smoke filled the air. One firefighter, who had become trapped on the rooftop, made a daring jump to a neighboring building to escape the flames. Fortunately, all firefighters were accounted for, and at least six were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident has raised concerns about the risks faced by first responders in urban areas where power infrastructure and residential buildings are closely intertwined. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time.
