Mundelein firefighters were called to a house explosion this afternoon at 918 Killarney Pass Drive, just a few blocks from Fire Station 1. When they arrived, they found a serious fire burning in a split-level home. The scene was chaotic, with thick smoke rising into the sky and emergency vehicles rushing to the location.
According to a report from the *Daily Herald*, one person has been confirmed dead following the explosion and subsequent fire on the north side of the village, just before noon on Friday. Lake County Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo stated that in addition to the fatality, another individual who was inside the house was hospitalized at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blast, but no official details have been released yet.
The explosion caused significant damage to the structure, leaving parts of the home completely destroyed. Local residents described hearing a loud boom and seeing flames engulfing the property within minutes. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of nearby homes.
