Here's a story from the March 18, 1975 edition of the Waukegan News-Sun. It details multiple fires that broke out in an apartment complex located just across the street from the old downtown central Waukegan Fire Station. The cause was a failure in the building’s gas distribution system, which led to several fires igniting at once throughout the structure. The Waukegan Fire Department responded with their Hi-Ranger Snorkel and a mid-1950s Seagrave aerial ladder truck, which had three sections and stood 85 feet tall. The photos were captured by News-Sun photographer Don Martin. I can only imagine that the firefighters who responded are now long retired. It's always interesting to look back at these historical moments and remember the dedication of those who served. Enjoy the read and the pictures!
