House fire in Vernon Hills, 9-11-23

The Countryside Fire Protection District responded to a reported house fire at 1111 Dearborn Lane in Vernon Hills this afternoon. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames engulfing a two-story, single-family residence. The incident was initially handled by local units, but due to the intensity of the fire, a MABAS Box Alarm was requested to bring in additional resources from neighboring departments. As the situation escalated, the alarm was elevated to a full box alarm assignment to ensure adequate response. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, and the Box Alarm was called off before all units had arrived on scene. This swift action helped limit damage and ensured the safety of nearby residents. Larry Shapiro, a local observer, shared his account of the event: "I witnessed the house fire in Vernon Hills and arrived just as the Box Alarm was being struck out."
