The committee aims to finalize the standards by March this year. The proposed national standards are expected to cover various aspects, including the specifications of plastic shopping bags, their identification, rapid testing methods, bags that come into direct contact with food, and biodegradable plastic bags. Proper labeling of these bags is crucial for safe usage, environmental protection, and recycling. However, the National Standards Committee has not yet decided whether the marking requirements will be mandatory. Experts are still discussing and debating this issue. Earlier reports indicated that the National Standards Committee had already begun drafting the standard, and the public was invited to provide feedback before the official release. According to a report from Beijing Entertainment News on January 15, the standards were expected to be issued before the end of January. Since the end of last year, the National Standardization Committee has been conducting research on the development of these standards. The entire development plan is now fully underway, with all required standards expected to be completed by June 1st. These standards will include both product specifications and testing methods as outlined in the State Council's notice. The goal is to ensure a smooth implementation of the plastic bag ban while maintaining quality and safety for consumers.
