V-Charge System: Guided Electric Car Parking to Charge Cars

With this in mind, the European consortium, V-Charge, is developing a system that can get off the bus when people arrive at the station and let the electric cars themselves look for parking.

To achieve this, the V-Charge system requires that the car be equipped with eight on-board cameras, just like the cameras used in parking aids and emergency braking systems. Of course, to make the car itself able to find a parking space, the necessary prerequisite is that it can drive automatically.

Once people arrive at the station, you can use the mobile phone application to tell the parking service system that you want to stop. Then the server will automatically connect to your car and send it a map of the available parking spaces. This map contains all the parking spaces in the parking lot and uses a dot layout. The car uses eight cameras to determine the route, searching for parking spaces at a speed of no more than 10km/h, and its braking system can prevent it from hitting other vehicles. In addition, the server will optimize routes and parking spaces to keep traffic flowing. After the car is parked, it can be charged automatically at the integrated charging station. When people finish their trip back to the station, they use the same method to get the car to pick them up.

Currently, two test electric vehicles carrying the V-Charge system are conducting road tests in Wolfsburg and Zurich respectively. Although there are still some problems with this system, it will be applicable to various parking lots in the future.

The V-Charge system is expected to be fully launched and put into use in September next year. In addition, V-Charge intends to expand the parking area so that even if the car can automatically find parking spaces on the road, but it is more demanding on the system, but also take into account the unpredictable variables, such as pedestrians.

When this system is implemented, it may be a good benefit for foreign drivers. It will not waste a lot of time searching for parking spaces.
