It was just after 3 A.M. on Sunday (December 23rd) when Engine 101 arrived at a one-story trucking company located at 74th and Bell Avenue. The building, which measured 65 by 100 feet with a truss roof, was engulfed in flames. Battalion 20 quickly established a perimeter around the fire within a minute of arrival, and it soon escalated to a 2-11 Alarm. Unfortunately, the structure was completely destroyed. Throughout the incident, Engines 101, 15, 123, and 54 were actively involved in firefighting efforts, while Tower Ladders 39 and 54, along with Squad 5's Snorkel, were deployed for aerial operations.
The images captured by Eric Haak show the intense scale of the blaze. In one photo, Chicago FD Tower Ladder 39 can be seen battling the inferno under the cover of darkness. Another captures Engine 101 as it works tirelessly to suppress the flames. The series of photos highlights the immense challenge faced by firefighters that night. One particularly striking image shows a massive fire burning through the warehouse's roof, illuminating the surrounding area with its fiery glow.
Other photos include Engine 15 and Engine 54, both visibly engaged in the operation, alongside Squad 5's Snorkel, which played a critical role in accessing hard-to-reach areas. Despite the severity of the fire, the coordinated efforts of the Chicago Fire Department ultimately contained the situation, though the loss remains significant. These images serve as a testament to the bravery and dedication of those who risk their lives to protect others.
