The second of two 2-11 alarm fires in Chicago on December 22, 2018, occurred at 6417 N Ravenswood Avenue. The incident took place on a Saturday afternoon and involved a one-story commercial building with a truss roof. The fire was initially confined to the rear section of the structure, which measured approximately 75 by 75 feet. However, it eventually spread through the roof, requiring significant firefighting efforts.
According to Eric Haak, who provided firsthand accounts and photos, the fire was intense and required the deployment of Tower Ladder 23 and the newly arrived Tower Ladder 21 to bring the situation under control. Firefighters worked diligently to prevent the blaze from spreading further, using high-pressure hose lines and aerial operations to tackle the flames from above.
