Here are some recent updates from Chicago.cbslocal.com:
A serious fire broke out in a two-story apartment building near 68th and Aberdeen in the Englewood neighborhood around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday. Fortunately, five residents were able to escape before emergency crews arrived.
About 20 minutes later, a firefighter suffered a fall through the floor while responding to the blaze. However, he managed to exit the building on his own and was not seriously injured. “He wasn’t transported and didn’t suffer any injuries. He was quickly removed by his team and continued working,†said Deputy District Chief Rosalind Jones.
Firefighters worked hard to contain the fire, attacking it from both the roof and the ground. The fire spread to a building directly to the south, adding to the complexity of the situation.
The fire was brought under control by approximately 1:45 a.m., but it reignited around 6:15 a.m. as crews remained on-site to monitor for hot spots.
