Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com:
Chicago firefighters were called to a two-story apartment building near 68th and Aberdeen in the Englewood neighborhood around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday. Five residents managed to escape before the emergency crew arrived.
About 20 minutes later, a firefighter fell through the floor while battling the flames. However, he was quickly assisted by his team and walked out of the building without any serious injuries. “He didn’t need medical transport. He was removed fast and continued working. He’s doing fine,†said Deputy District Chief Rosalind Jones of the Chicago Fire Department.
Fire crews worked from both the roof and the ground to bring the fire under control. The fire spread to a neighboring building to the south, but it was eventually contained by about 1:45 a.m. Unfortunately, the fire reignited around 6:15 a.m., prompting crews to remain on site for further monitoring.
