From the Blue Island Historical Society Facebook page, I came across this exciting update. The new Fire Department Museum will be located just across the street from the fire station on Vermont Street. It's a great opportunity to learn more about our local history and fire safety. Be sure to check it out and share your thoughts—Mike Summa The Blue Island Fire Department Museum was first imagined by local resident Joe Dinovo and is now being brought to life with the support of the City of Blue Island, the O’Callaghan family, the Blue Island Historical Society, and many other volunteers and donors. The museum aims to educate the public about the rich history of our fire department, as well as promote fire safety and prevention. One of the most exciting features will be the display of "Old Bess," a 1925 Seagrave fire engine that was originally purchased brand-new by the city. The design was created by Ken Jellema, a local artist and community supporter, and while the final plans may still change slightly, the progress so far has been incredibly promising. These kinds of projects take time—years, in fact—but with the strong support of the Blue Island community, we're confident that this dream will soon become a reality. Your support plays a vital role in preserving our local heritage and ensuring future generations can enjoy these amazing stories.
