Blue Island Fire Department Museum

From the Blue Island Historical Society's Facebook page, I came across this exciting update. The new Fire Department Museum will be located just across the street from the fire station on Vermont Street. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about our local history and fire safety. Be sure to check it out and share your thoughts! – Mike Summa The Blue Island Fire Department Museum was first envisioned by local resident Joe Dinovo and is now being supported by the City of Blue Island, the family of Matthew O’Callaghan, the Blue Island Historical Society, and many volunteers and donors. The goal is to educate the public on the rich history of our fire department and promote fire safety and prevention. One of the most exciting features of the museum will be the display of Old Bess, a 1925 Seagrave fire engine that was originally purchased brand-new by the city of Blue Island. The initial design was created by Ken Jellema, a local artist and community supporter, who has also contributed to other projects in the area. While the final design may still go through some changes, the progress so far has been very promising. These kinds of projects take time, but with the strong support from the community, we’re confident they’ll eventually become a reality. If you're interested in helping preserve local history and supporting future initiatives, consider becoming a member of the Blue Island Historical Society.
