Breakthrough in the development of bearing super-precision machine tools

Recently, China's self-developed "multi-pole electromagnetic chuck type super-finishing machine tool" has successfully passed the expert technology appraisal organized by the China Machinery Industry Federation. Experts have highlighted that this breakthrough will help fill a critical gap in the domestic market, elevate the level of equipment manufacturing in the old industrial bases of Northeast China, and support China's transformation from a major bearing producer to a true bearing power. This development is expected to significantly enhance the overall capabilities of China’s mechanical processing industry. It is reported that China's bearing super-precision equipment technology is still not fully mature. Many companies continue to rely on outdated roller-type systems and manual polishing methods. As a result, the surface roughness, waviness, and vibration levels of processed bearing channels often fail to meet industry standards, leading to low qualification rates, poor product accuracy, and limited competitiveness. Imported ultra-finishing machines from the U.S., Germany, and Japan, which typically use pressure roller or roller-type mechanisms, are not only costly but also deliver unsatisfactory results. These machines often cause indentations and scratches on workpieces, leading to many units being underutilized or even left idle. In contrast, the newly appraised multi-pole electromagnetic chuck-type bearing super-finishing machine tool is part of the Torch Plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology and an industrialization demonstration project supported by the National Development and Reform Commission. After years of research and development, the prototype has been completed, and small-scale production has been achieved. Performance tests and real-world production assessments have confirmed that all technical indicators meet the design specifications. The machine effectively addresses common technical issues found in traditional press roll and roller-type super-precision equipment, offering significant advantages in quality improvement, resource conservation, and increased productivity. Additionally, it is priced at just one-tenth of imported alternatives, making it a game-changer for Chinese manufacturers.
