Chicago Still & Box 5-17-11

Last night, Steve Redick captured a Still & Box alarm response at 3636 Grenshaw. The fire broke out on the back porches of a three-story, six-unit building that appeared to be unoccupied. Engine 107 arrived as the second engine and quickly moved to the rear, deploying their deck gun to tackle the bulk of the flames before securing a hydrant at the end of the alley. The initial images show the intense fire damage to the wooden deck area on one side of the porch, which spread across the roof deck. Engine 38 was the first engine on scene, taking position at the front of the building. Meanwhile, Truck 48 scaled the roof in the front of the structure for better access and control. Engine 107 then utilized their deck gun to douse the fire before establishing a reliable water source. Heavy charring is clearly visible on the upper decks, highlighting the severity of the blaze. These photos give a detailed look at how the fire advanced, consuming much of the exterior surfaces. Steve’s gallery provides further context to the incident, showcasing the impressive efforts of the Chicago Fire Department in containing the situation. Steve’s collection of images offers a comprehensive view of the incident, capturing both the chaos and the coordinated efforts of firefighters. It’s a reminder of the challenges faced by emergency responders and the importance of quick action in such scenarios. You can check out more of his photos [here].
