Last night, Steve Redick captured a Still & Box alarm response at 3636 Grenshaw. The fire broke out on the back porches of a three-story, six-unit apartment building that seemed to be unoccupied. Engine 107 arrived as the second engine on scene and was directed to the rear where firefighters unleashed their deck gun to control the majority of the flames before securing a hydrant at the end of the alley.
As you can see in the images, Truck 48 positioned themselves in front of the structure on Grenshaw, carefully scaling the roof for better access. Engine 38 was the first engine to arrive and took a strategic stance at the front of the building, ready to tackle the blaze head-on. Meanwhile, Engine 107 utilized their powerful water cannon to douse the flames, ensuring the fire didn’t spread further.
The intensity of the fire was evident, as it not only consumed the deck area but also crept across the roof deck, leaving significant damage in its wake. Heavy charring marks were visible from the upper deck, indicating just how fierce the inferno became. Steve’s photographs provide an up-close look at the aftermath, capturing both the bravery of the firefighters and the extent of the destruction.
For those interested in more visuals, Steve has put together a small gallery [here]. It’s always sobering to witness these scenes, especially when the buildings involved are part of a community's architectural fabric. Thankfully, no reports of injuries have surfaced, and the firefighters managed to contain the situation before it could escalate further. It’s moments like these that highlight the dedication and skill of our local fire departments.
