On the 9th, it was reported by the Chongqing Municipal Economic Commission that a proposal titled *"Chemical Industry Sustainable Development Project Library Planning for Chongqing"* has been submitted by the company. The plan outlines 105 chemical industry projects in the city, with an estimated total investment of 98.732 billion yuan. This initiative is being referred to as the "Government Project Supermarket." Once experts have evaluated and confirmed the financial, material, and resource requirements for each project, companies can select those that best fit their operational conditions.
It is worth noting that in the past, some chemical enterprises in Chongqing had engaged in hasty project development, leading to environmental pollution and resource wastage. Additionally, many companies struggled to assess the risks involved in such projects. In response, Chongqing has introduced a new approach: creating a government-led project supermarket. This model involves expert reviews and allows enterprises to choose projects based on their own needs, making the process more transparent and efficient. Industry experts have welcomed the proposal, expressing hope that the government will quickly move forward with the formal implementation of these projects.
The proposal is divided into three main categories: natural gas chemicals, petrochemicals and downstream products, and fine chemicals. Specifically, there are 48 projects focused on natural gas chemistry, 30 on petrochemicals and related products, and 27 on fine chemicals and other specialized chemical fields. If all these projects are successfully executed, they could help build a polymer materials industrial cluster featuring five major thermoplastic engineering plastics. It would also establish clusters for basic organic chemicals (centered around methanol and its derivatives), high-ammonia fertilizer production, salt-gas chemical industries (based on PVC and methyl chloride), and fine chemicals (including paints, pharmaceutical intermediates, and pesticide intermediates).
This initiative aims to solidify the chemical industry as a key pillar of Chongqing's economy, address the issue of industrial emptiness in the Three Gorges reservoir area, and accelerate the restructuring of both the chemical sector and the regional economic layout. With this comprehensive strategy, the city is taking a significant step toward sustainable and coordinated industrial growth.
