Building on last week’s post, I’d like to share some rare photos from the well-known 1972 plane crash near Midway Airport. I don’t think much background is needed here. According to CFD records, the incident occurred at 2:29 p.m. on December 8, 1972, at 3715-23 W. 70th Place. The emergency response was classified as a 3-11 alarm. These images capture the recovery phase and were taken from a location that the media wasn’t permitted to access. Two people on the ground lost their lives, along with 43 passengers and crew aboard the aircraft. Surprisingly, 18 people survived the crash. There's a video of the event on YouTube, but the quality is quite poor.
