Ionic liquid catalytic synthesis of ethylene carbonate

The ionic liquid catalyzed ethylene carbonate project undertaken by the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has recently passed the scientific and technological appraisal of Gansu Province. The project solved the key technical problems such as low yield of synthetic ethylene carbonate, low utilization of raw materials, and ionic liquid catalytic recycling, and provided technical support for the effective use of carbon dioxide emissions and downstream product development of ethylene carbonate. The LZC type complex ionic liquid catalyst developed in this project has high catalytic activity and good selectivity. With an ionic liquid catalyst of less than 6 parts per million, the yield of ethylene carbonate can be as high as 98%. They researched and developed the catalytic cycle process, which effectively achieved the recycling of the catalyst and reduced the material consumption and energy consumption. The ethylene carbonate products produced by this technology have reached the national quality requirements, and refined products can meet the needs of high-end products in the electronics industry.
