Zhangdian’s “Chemical Flavor” in the east completely solved the overall relocation mission.

With the completion of the full relocation of key polluting projects such as anion exchange resin production, chloromethyl ether manufacturing at Shandong Dongda Chemical Co., Ltd., and pivalic acid production at Shandong Taizhou Xinhua Dongfeng Chemical Co., Ltd., the long-standing issue of "chemical odor" that once plagued Zhangdian Eastern Chemical Park in Zibo, Shandong, has finally been eliminated. As of December 6th, the persistent smell of chemicals, which had affected the local environment for years, is now a thing of the past. Zhangdian Eastern Chemical Park is home to several major chemical companies, including Shandong Xinhua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Shandong Dacheng Pesticide Co., Ltd., Shandong Dongda Chemical Co., Ltd., Shandong Xinhua Dongfeng Chemical Co., Ltd., and Zibo Heli Chemical Co., Ltd. For many years, these enterprises emitted strong odors—ranging from fishy, sour, to pesticide-like smells—that severely impacted air quality in surrounding areas. To tackle this problem, Zibo city authorities began imposing production restrictions and shutdowns on the chemical park starting June 1, 2004. In late March of this year, the environmental supervision department conducted a comprehensive inspection of emissions from the factories, raw materials, transportation, and production processes in the eastern chemical zone. They discovered that the main source of the "chemical odor" was volatile gases released during various chemical production processes. Following this, the Zibo Environmental Protection Bureau issued directives to five major companies, including Dacheng, Dongda, and Xinhua Dongfeng, requiring them to implement emission control measures and relocate or renovate their facilities. In response, Dongda Chemical relocated its anion exchange resin plant in August, shutting down the highly polluting facility. In September, Dacheng Group invested 200,000 yuan in upgrading its omethoate project, installing new condensers to reduce exhaust gas emissions. Meanwhile, Xinhua Chemical completed a 800,000 RMB investment in new sewage treatment and deodorization systems, which became operational by the end of November. Other companies, such as Dongfeng and Heli Energy, also carried out necessary pollution control measures according to schedule. This collective effort marks a significant step forward in improving the environmental quality of the Zhangdian area, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable development and public health.
