CFD mayday at Still & Box 2-1-13 (pt2)

I responded to what I thought would be a small job in the 5700 block of Newark, just around the corner from Engine 119â€™s station. What started off as a routine call turned into a mayday and a 2-11 alarm. It was a large bungalow under renovation, with fire reported on multiple levels. The operation was complicated by an ice and snow storm, making it really tough to manage the scene. Getting good photos was nearly impossibleâ€”snow ruined flash shots, and the low ambient light made it hard to get a fast enough shutter speed. So these images arenâ€™t anywhere near the quality I usually capture.

At the time, I was safely across the street watching the operations when I heard some commotion about someone falling into the basement. The DDC immediately called a mayday, and there was a lot of activity. But they got the injured person out pretty quickly. Later, I found out that the stairway between the first and second floors had collapsed, probably due to the ongoing renovations. I saw two firefighters being carried out on stretchers with neck collars, and a few others who were walking wounded. All units were pulled out of the building, and a "par" was taken. A regroup happened, and the incident was eventually brought under control.

From my vantage point, I couldn't see much more than what was happening on the surface. Maybe someone who was actually at the scene can add more details. You can check out the video here:

Some photos are attached. I believe everyone is okay. Iâ€™m curious how this mayday went with the new radios and channels. This might have been one of the first emergencies since the new communication system was rolled out. I wonder how it performed under pressure.
