Glenview moves to temporary station

The Glenview Fire Department has officially vacated Station 6 located at 1815 Glenview Road. As previously reported, the building is set to be demolished as part of a larger downtown redevelopment initiative. In the meantime, the department’s headquarters and administrative offices have been temporarily relocated to the police station, while the fire companies have been dispersed across different locations: - Battalion 6 is now operating out of Station 14. - Ambulance 6 is based at Station 13. - Engine 6 has moved to a temporary location on the park district property along Glenview Road. These temporary arrangements are in place until a new facility is constructed. The old headquarters building, once a central hub for the department, now stands empty, signaling the end of an era for Glenview Fire Department history. Several items from the original Station 6 have been carefully removed and stored, including a historic memorial marker that will be reinstalled once the new site is ready. A bench and bell, which had long been part of the station's character, have also been relocated to a safe storage area. Photos from local photographer Larry Shapiro capture the current state of the site, showing Engine 6 at its temporary location, the apparatus bay and living quarters on the park district property, and the vacant building that once housed the department’s headquarters. These images serve as a visual reminder of the transition taking place in Glenview’s emergency services infrastructure.
