Harman will build a global R&D center in Suzhou to open in mid-2015

Harman International recently announced during the Beijing Auto Show that it will start a new global R&D center in Suzhou, Jiangsu province in mid-2015 for R&D and design of automotive speakers and amplifiers.

Harman said that the company will begin construction of a new global R&D center in Suzhou in June, with an investment of approximately US$16 million in the first phase, which is expected to be completed by mid-2015. The new center will occupy an area of ​​10,000 square meters, and will employ 200 new employees in the initial period.

In 2000, Harman opened its first manufacturing facility in Suzhou and put into production a range of Lifestyle audio, multimedia and mobile products. In 2008, the company opened a new factory in Suzhou for the production of car audio and infotainment systems. At present, Harman's total number of employees in Suzhou is about 800.

After the completion of the Suzhou R&D center, it will focus on the design and development of car speakers and amplifier products. The center is a two-story structure that will cover pre-production plants for automotive electronics, verification and environmental testing facilities, sound system laboratories and auditory rooms. Harman will further expand this R&D center in the future so that it can accommodate a 350-person work team.
