Interview with the "Selection of China's Dry Equipment Outstanding Enterprises"

The "China Drying Equipment Outstanding Enterprise Selection" event, jointly organized by the Drying Equipment Branch of the China General Machinery Industry Association, the Drying Specialty Group of the Chemical Engineering Committee of the China Chemical Industry Society, and the China Chemical Newspaper Office, officially launched in June 2005. Since its inception, the event has gained increasing attention and support from companies within the drying equipment industry and related sectors. Currently, dozens of enterprises have participated in the survey, while many more have expressed interest by sending inquiries. To better understand the background and goals of this selection initiative, a reporter from the China Drying Network conducted an exclusive interview with the leaders of the three organizing bodies. They were asked to explain the significance of the event from the perspectives of the association, society, and authoritative media. The three leaders include Mr. Zhang Yubao, Director of the Selection Committee and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China General Machinery Industry Association; Mr. Hao Changjiang, Vice Chairman of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association and President of China Chemical News; and Mr. Shi Yongchun, Head of the Chemical Engineering Committee of the China Chemical Engineering Society. During the interview, the reporters raised several key questions about the purpose, credibility, and long-term vision of the selection process. Zhang Yubao emphasized that the event is not just a trend-following activity or a ceremonial award-giving. Instead, it aims to guide the healthy development of the industry through a fair and authoritative evaluation. He highlighted that the selection focuses on a company’s overall competitiveness, technical level, and management quality rather than just output value. Shi Yongchun explained that the initiative was designed to establish a scientific index system to help companies improve their standards and performance. The goal is not just to select “excellent” companies, but to promote industry-wide improvements through the selection process. Hao Changjiang stressed the importance of maintaining media credibility and ensuring that the event serves as a platform for raising industry awareness. He mentioned that the involvement of the media is aimed at promoting concepts like service, technology, and management, rather than simply focusing on price or size. When asked about the differences between this selection and others that have lost public trust due to commercial interference, Zhang Yubao explained that the organizers have taken measures such as verifying company materials, gathering opinions from multiple parties, inviting expert judges, and extending publicity time. Additionally, user voting forms were published in both print and online platforms to enhance transparency and effectiveness. Shi Yongchun pointed out that while foreign standards exist, they are not suitable for China's unique market conditions. He argued that relying solely on operating income is not an effective way to evaluate Chinese drying equipment companies, which are still in an early stage of development. Zhang Yubao also acknowledged challenges in the selection process, particularly in verifying financial data. Some companies exaggerate their achievements, while others deliberately underreport their figures. These issues highlight the need for more rigorous verification and broader stakeholder engagement in future selections. At the end of the interview, the leaders expressed their hopes for the industry’s future. They believe that the selection should encourage companies to focus on service, management, and technology to build core competitiveness. While being recognized as an outstanding enterprise brings prestige, it also comes with pressure to maintain high standards. Moreover, the leaders mentioned plans for a “Dry-Work Summit Meeting” later this year to establish a credit system and foster better communication among companies. This will help strengthen cooperation and achieve resource integration across the industry. When asked about the long-term sustainability of the event, the three leaders expressed hope that the “China Drying Equipment Outstanding Enterprise Selection” can continue as a landmark activity, continuously improving and leading the development of the drying equipment industry in China.
